Artistic gymnastics: Zhang back in the medals with one rotation left
You just can't count outZhang Boheng. With the last two rotations on apparatus that favour him, he knew he always stayed in with a chance of still taking home this men's all-around title.
He's done his chances a world of good with a hit routine on parallel bars, scoring 15.300.
But teammateXiao Ruoteng and Japan's Oka Shinnosuke also both hit on parallel bars to remain ahead of him in the all-around scores, with just high bar left to go.
After 5/6 rotations:
- Oka Shinnosuke (JPN) 72.332
- Xiao Ruoteng (CHN) 71.998
- Zhang Boheng (CHN) 71.966

Artistic gymnastics: Kovtun into top-three spot after strong parallel bars routine
The pick of the routines of that fourth rotation was Ukraine'sIllia Kovtun, the 2023 world all-around silver medallist behind Hashimoto (but in the absence of Zhang), on theparallel bars.
A rocking 15.400 for the Ukrainian moes him into the top three after four rotations.
This is heating up, withOleg Verniaiev, who got 15.000 on parallel bars, now in the lead and Oka back in joint-third.
After 4/6 rotations:
- Oleg Verniaiev (UKR) 57.766
- Illia Kovtun (UKR) 57.632
- Xiao Ruoteng (CHN) and Oka Shinnosuke (JPN) 57.232
Jake Jarman is fifth andZhang Boheng sixth, still in with a chance.Hashimoto is ninth.

Artistic gymnastics: Hashimoto's struggles continue
The favourites' group have headed to rings, whereHashimoto Daiki has struggled again.
He put in a solid routine but did not get enough difficulty in his performance, and a score inquiry was rejected. His score of 13.400 almost certainly means he's out of the running.
Zhang Boheng scored 14.600 to haul himself up the standings, but it's Hashimoto's teammateOka Shinnosuke who leads at the halfway mark.
Elsewhere, Félix Dolci of Canada was third after two apparatus, but has had a nightmare on the high bar. First, his grips ripped during his first attempt, causing him to fall. He was granted a do-over, but fell during his second attempt, and will drop out of the top three.
After 3/6 rotations:
- Oka Shinnosuke (JPN) 42.932
- Oleg Verniaiev (UKR) 42.766
- Xiao Ruoteng (CHN) 42.399

Shooting: Ruano wins women's trap, Guatemala's first Olympic gold in history
This is a tense final. One by one, the athletes are eliminated after series of five shots.
Australia'sPenny Smith is knocked out in the bronze-medal position with a score of 32 of her 40 shots hit.
That leaves Guatemala'sAdriana Ruano and Italy'sSilvana Maria Stanco as the last two standing, and Ruano holds a four-point lead going into the last two series of five shots each.
The Olympic record, currently 43 by Zuzana Rehak Stefecekova set in Tokyo three years ago, is under threat.
Deep breaths, load the shotgun, wait for the target, fire. It's 42-37 with one series to go.
Ruano hits her first target. She cannot be caught now! She has tied the Olympic record and won gold. A wry smile from Stanco as she misses the first of the last series.
Some nerves? Ruano misses the next two. But she hits another to make the Olympic record her own!
This is historic - Guatemala's first Olympic gold medal ever. She finishes on 45 points for gold.
Italy's Stanco wins silver on 40.
The Guatemalan flags are flying in the stands! Ruano looks emotional. She is a history-maker for her country. The sobs are coming now as she is embraced by Stanco and Smith.

Rowing: Lola Anderson fulfills childhood goal
Here's a truly touching story to bring you from the women's quad sculls, where Great Britain won gold earlier.
Months before he died of cancer, Don Anderson gave his daughter, Lola, a note from a diary entry that she had thrown away as a child.
What had Lola written?
That her dream was to one day win Olympic rowing gold.
At Paris 2024, she has fulfilled that dream.
